Painting "Repentance of St. Peter" - Oil on canvas - 17th century Repentance of St. Peter. The rendering of the reality of the gaze of St. Peter through the use of strong contrasts of light and shadow common in the paintings of Caravaggesque painters and in particular of the period of Neapolitan Caravaggism which is found in this great painting for its realism represented by the deep gaze and piercing of St. Peter turned upwards and begging for forgiveness, repentant of his betrayal, made on a very dark monochrome background, painted with fields of bituminous browns or umber and illuminated by glimpses of violent light at times theatrical of the Neapolitan school. Good state of conservation. Dimensions: 92 H x 73 LP
