The Holy Family Tuscan School, 17th-18th century Oil on panel 30 x 24 cm - Framed 41 x 33 cm Complete details of the work (click HERE) In the pleasant devotional depiction, also commonly called "Holy Family", the Virgin is depicted who, with a serene attitude and a veil of shyness, is captured while tenderly holding the Child in her arms, resting on a hard cushion. The child carries with him his childlike liveliness, with his head turned elsewhere marked by a lively smile, while Joseph, in shadow on the right, protectively observes the scene, highlighted by the dark background, which emphasizes the vividness of the ethereal complexions and the sweet drapery of the garments. The character of the painting, as well as the quality of the pictorial rendering and the balance of the invention, are elements that lead us to identify its stylistic origins in the refined Tuscan, purely Florentine, figurative culture, with still Renaissance reminiscences. The softness of the complexions, the idealization of the refined figures, even the somatic traits of the three individual figures recall the Marian works of Del Sarto, Rosso Fiorentino, Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio and especially Domenico Puligo. We are therefore faced with a painter who, although active between the 17th and 18th centuries, was strongly inspired by this erudite and refined culture and who must have necessarily studied the creations of these masters, to then propose a similar, but unique, version, not a mere copy of already famous works.
