Workshop of Peter Paul Rubens, Siegen 1577 - Antwerp 1640; Ecce Homo, oil on copper
Description
Workshop of Peter Paul Rubens
Ecce Homo
Oil on copper
cm 38.5x52
The painting can be dated to the 17th century due to both the copper support and the pictorial material. Certainly, there is a reference to the homonymous work by the painter Peter Paul Rubens in terms of subject and style. Flemish context. Subject taken from the "Ecce Homo" by the Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens. The strong stylistic references and adherence to the theme suggest the production of the workshop active in Antwerp from the early 1600s until the painter's death in 1640. In particular, the color range, the anatomical rendering of the subjects described, the strong pathos emanating from the image of Christ of the Passion, and the iconography built almost on a theatrical rendering of the scene described (the moment staged on a platform with the audience involved as spectators) are noteworthy.
