Still life of fruit outdoors - Rome 1660 – 1670
Master of fruits on inclined planes,"Still life of fruit outdoors
Rome 1660 – 1670
Oil painting on canvas, 97 x 134 cm
Frame 123 x 158 cm
Outdoors, beneath a cascade of grape bunches and resting on three rocky ledges, a rich still life is depicted.
Peaches, pears, apples, cherries, grapes, plums, figs, and a melon are arranged with balance and taste to form a pleasing composition.
The elegant still life is the work of a Roman artist datable to the 1660s/70s.
Several other works by this artist are known, always of high quality, featuring fruits displayed on rocky ledges.
Pending the discovery of the exact biographical details, and in order to clearly identify the author without any risk of confusion, the pseudonym 'Master of Fruits on Inclined Planes' could be coined for him."
