Pieter Casteels III (Antwerp 1684 – 1749 Richmond)Floral still life Signed on the lower left, on the stone: P Casteels Circa 1730 Oil on canvas Cm 57 x 103, In frame 67 x 112 The painting is accompanied by an expertise by Prof. Ferdinando Arisi Details of the work (link): The painting is accompanied by a critical study written by Ferinando Arisi who attributes the authorship to the hand of the Antwerp master Pieter Casteels III (Antwerp 1684 – 1749 Richmond), an attribution supported by the signature affixed on the stone at the bottom on the left. The work, which follows a horizontal development, shows rich floral compositions arranged according to a studied randomness above architectural fragments of a garden. The still life documents very well the expressive qualities of the painter, capable in his creation of creating a sequence of similar compositions without falling into the banality of the illustrative replica, showing a descriptive sensitivity of remarkable visual impact and refinement. As specified in the expertise, the still life was created around 1730, following a taste that from the ways of Gaspar Peter Verbruggen, evolves towards typical forms not only of the Netherlands, but that can easily be defined as European; in Italy, for example, painters active in the Roman-Neapolitan environment such as Gasparo Lopez, Francesco Lavagna and Nicola Malinconico express themselves in a similar way; Among the paintings that can be compared, we see the two still lifes with flowers above sculpted bathtubs, one of which signed and dated 1729, sold by Christie's, in London, on November 6, 1964. The work is presented with an excellent state of conservation, completed by an antique gilded and lacquered wooden frame. Accompanied by expertise of authenticity (FIMA).
