Gaetano Grezler (active in Veneto in the second half of the 18th century) - Interior scene with figures
The artwork depicts a lively interior scene, probably set in a gambling den. Figures intent on playing are served by figures in red livery. The warm candlelight in the center of the tables creates a striking contrast with the shaded areas, accentuating the intimate and clandestine nature of the setting.
The canvas demonstrates Grezler's ability to combine the realistic depiction of figures with a scenographic taste of Venetian origin, close to the genre painting of Pietro Longhi and Gaspare Diziani, but with a more choral and narrative tone.

Notes:
Grezler's works, rare on the market, are appreciated for their documentary value on the social and private life of the 18th-century Veneto. This pair, for compositional breadth and variety of figures, represents a significant example of his production intended for aristocratic or upper-class bourgeois commissions.
