Description: Pair of antique oil on canvas paintings attributed to the Neapolitan painter "Domenico Brandi" depicting Ponte Mammolo and an idyllic landscape with figures. The painting depicts an idyllic landscape with classical architectural ruins reminiscent of ancient Rome, where shepherds and livestock are visible in the foreground near a stream. The other painting shows a contrast between a dark foreground populated by shepherds and flocks and a background with ruins (Ponte Mammolo) and a cloudy sky. Historical Notes: Accompanied by contemporary gilded frames, the canvases are attributed to the Neapolitan landscape painter Domenico Brandi. Trained with his father, a skilled perspective artist and decorator, our artist looks to the Neapolitan landscape tradition, particularly that of Gargiulo, before embarking on a journey to Rome where he carried out his activity in the workshop of Rosa da Tivoli. In the Eternal City, Domenico acquires the illustrative taste and the delicate bucolic spirit of his master. Our paintings express very well this mixture of literary tradition and picturesque vision of nature, which will be predominant throughout his production. In fact, he will be remembered by De Dominici as a painter of animalier subjects, with results that will influence the art of Michele Pagano (Naples, 1697; 1732) and Nicola Viso (1724; 1742). Origin: Naples, early 18th century. Measurements: 155x115cm. Condition: Minor losses to the frames. Document: Certificate of Authenticity.
