Giovanni Giacomo Van Lint (Rome 1723 - 1790) View of the Roman Forum Oil on canvas (cm. 53.5 x 68 - framed 60 x 75 cm) Expertise by Prof. Giancarlo Sestieri (Rome, 2010) Complete details of the work (click HERE) This delightful "View of the Roman Forum" (oil painting on canvas, cm. 53.5 x 68), of imaginative inventiveness, freely inspired by the ruins of the Palatine Hill, with the addition on the right of an open space with rural buildings, is an interesting testimony to Roman landscape painting of the full eighteenth century. The work can be attributed to the hand of Giovanni Giacomo Van Lint (Rome 1723 - 1790) based, in addition to the aforementioned expository taste, on the analysis of the figurative imprint, with which the "macchiette" that animate this scene are executed: from the couple strolling on the left, to the children playing on a makeshift swing, next to two farm carts, to the woman with a basket on her head, and to the minute figures that move in the background. The son of art of Hendrik Frans van Lint (1684-1763), Giacomo achieved solid fame as a landscape painter accurately depicting the city of Rome following the example of his father's models, expressing, however, his own stylistic personality, dedicating himself above all to the "veduta", both realistic and of imaginative inspiration, as in the present painting. The painter's art is distinguished by a luminous chromatic timbre, with the brightness of the sun tending to fade, infusing a delicate sense of chromatic quiet. These aspects were highly appreciated by foreign travelers of the Grand Tour, a fact that allows us to classify his production as a true genre, certainly vedutistico, but intended for those who wanted a 'memory' - which today we would define as a souvenir - of the Eternal City. The painter worked mainly for the public from beyond the Alps, and his works were preserved in European private collections, particularly in English ones. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The work is sold complete with a pleasant gilded frame and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a descriptive iconographic card.
