Flemish painter from the second half of the 18th century. River landscape with figures and livestock. Oil on canvas, Dimensions: cm H 63 x W 80 x D 2. Price: confidential negotiation. Object accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The painting, executed in oil on canvas, depicts a river or lake landscape enlivened by figures of fishermen and travelers with livestock. In the foreground on the left, on some rocks surrounded by lawn and flowers, two figures are seated engaged in conversation. Beyond, a high rock face covered with vegetation creates a scenic backdrop to the composition. On the right, the waterway is traversed by a wooden boat with a characteristic northern European hull. From the boat, a fisherman leans out from behind. On the other bank of the river, some houses built on a rocky hill and surrounded by tall green trunks are depicted. Further down, a shepherd leads a flock to pasture. Beyond the river bend, slightly in the distance, an islet appears on which it is possible to glimpse some architecture and lush plants. The horizon fades towards inhabited hills and mountains whose contours, in light colors, blend with the portion of sky, which occupies the second half of the painting. Stylistically, the painting is attributable to the hand of a painter active in the second half of the eighteenth century in Flanders. Characteristic of northern painters is the care and meticulousness with which the various elements of the composition are depicted, such as the reflections in the water, the leaves, the flowers, while maintaining a lively and confident brushstroke that helps to create a sense of movement, as if the painter had captured a moment of the scene. The work, which is very decorative and has a light and pleasing color palette, is undergoing historical-artistic study.
