Giuseppe Zais (Forno di Canale 1709 - Treviso 1784) - Landscape with shepherds and ruined bridge. 79.5 x 108.5 cm without frame, 96 x 125 cm with frame. Oil on canvas, in carved and gilded wooden frame. - The painting is certainly attributed to the hand of Giuseppe Zais (Forno di Canale 1709 - Treviso 1784) on the basis of stylistic comparisons. Condition report: Canvas lined. Good condition of the painted surface. Giuseppe Zais (1709–1781) was one of the most famous Venetian landscape painters, known for his depictions of bucolic scenes featuring stylized figures of shepherds, flocks and washerwomen, set in an idyllic rural landscape inspired by the Venetian countryside. He trained in Venice, where he was able to observe the works of his illustrious predecessor Marco Ricci, from whom he drew obvious inspiration, and was a contemporary of Francesco Zuccarelli, from whom he derived that grace that characterizes his most refined works. Zais's style distinguished itself by a more authentically rural depiction of the arcadian landscape than that of his contemporaries: his compositions, although of Rococo inspiration, are pervaded by a sense of different realism, given by the use of more marked and brown tones and a material and pasty application of color. The painting presented here is a work of high quality, executed by the master from Belluno at the height of his maturity. The protagonists of the scene are the three figures in the center, described and delineated with finesse by Zais in a moment of peace and serenity by the stream. The scattered characters, the grazing flock, two fishermen by the river and an imaginary ruined bridge in the background are all elements laid out lightly and which confer harmony and serenity to this idyllic landscape. - All shipments within the EU are free and professionally packaged. - Each item is sold with a certificate of authenticity with legal validity. - Further details on the condition report are available on request. - Viezzi Arte guarantees quality and professionalism at competitive prices, contact us at info@viezziarte.it or via WhatsApp at +39 3402841279. *Message to non-Italian buyers: Please note that this work has not yet obtained the free export certificate from Italy from the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage.
