Pair of paintings, oil on canvas, depicting trompe l'oeil with putti games, attributable to Piat Joseph Sauvage (Tournai, 1744 – 1818) France, 18th century Oil on canvas Measurements: cm H 94 x W 132 x 3 each Objects accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The pair of oil on canvas paintings depicts trompe l'oeil with putti games. These are grisaille, or monochromatic, paintings that simulate marble bas-reliefs with figures of putti intent on playing with a goat in outdoor settings. Of good pictorial quality, these canvases represent the Louis XVI style widespread in the last quarter of the 18th century. They present evident stylistic similarities to works by the Flemish painter, active in France, Piat Joseph Sauvage (Tournai, 1744 – 1818), in which a very similar fresh and fast stroke is found, as well as the type of chiaroscuro, which is extremely volumetric. This type of painting was inserted inside boiseries in important noble palaces with the intention of simulating marble sculptures and bas-reliefs. They are characterized by their strong decorativeness and are particularly suitable as valuable furnishings in modern or antique settings, thanks to their chromatic characteristics, which are very light and bright, and their three-dimensionality. Historical and artistic studies are underway to better define the figure of the author and the historical context in which the paintings were created. Excellent condition.
