Italian painting, oil on canvas from the 18th century
Saint Charles Borromeo adoring the cross.
The saint is depicted with his hands clasped in an attitude of prayer
under the benevolent eyes of an angel
who looks at his face and holds his pastoral staff
In front of him the cross with the dead Christ.
Below on the table an open breviary and a skull
iconography of meditation on death and eternal life.
Painted on first canvas, good condition
but it needs cleaning and some restoration
