Sketch for altarpiece
Oil on canvas from the first half of the 18th century, made in preparation for an altar piece. It is the presentations, on soft clouds, by angels of the bishop commissioning the Madonna with baby Jesus in the presence, in the highest part of the sky, of an imperious God and indicating the client himself. In the upper left, a group of putti and angels hold a cardinal red velvet drape. The lower part of the painting presents the three Theological Virtues in their classic iconographic representation. The dimensions of the canvas are 77x104 cm, the frame in gold leaf is coeval.
