Elegant kobon
Tray for incense (kobon) in fundame gold lacquered wood with hiramaki-e with Shibayama technique inlays of polychrome mother-of-pearl and horn. Naturalistic depiction of a pair of pheasants near a stream and a peony plant with flying swallows. Brim with closed corners and decoration in red and black lacquer and gold motifs, nashiji lacquer with gold splashes on the back. Provenance: Japan Period: Meiji late 19th century.
