This splendid Imari porcelain incense burner is a piece of decorative art that captures the essence of Japanese aesthetics. Masterfully crafted, the object features a rich and vibrant decoration in the traditional Imari colors: cobalt blue underglaze, iron red, and finely applied overglaze gold, which add a touch of luxury and refinement. Details and Features Unique Design: The pot-bellied shape of the main body rests on three legs. The two side handles, sculpted in the shape of stylized lion faces (Fo dogs or guardian lions), add a distinctive and protective element. Detailed Decoration: The surface is richly decorated with intricate floral and foliate motifs. The central panel on each side of the burner features a magnificent bird, likely a phoenix (Ho-o), a symbol of immortality and rebirth, carefully painted in red and gold. Lid and Base: The perforated lid, which allows incense smoke to escape, is surmounted by a guardian lion figure with its mouth open, a symbol of protection and strength.
