Authentic Sunken Treasure: "Nanking Cargo" Plate, 18th Century Chinese Porcelain We present an incredibly rare and fascinating piece of history: an authentic Chinese porcelain plate, dating back to the Qianlong period (1736-1795). This plate is not only a beautiful artifact but a survivor of the famous shipwreck of the "Geldermalsen", a ship of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) that sank in 1752. The cargo, recovered in 1985 and auctioned by Christie's in 1986, went down in history as the "Nanking Cargo". Each piece has a unique story, having spent over two centuries at the bottom of the sea. This specific plate bears the original Christie's auction sticker, guaranteeing its authenticity and provenance. The plate is finely decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, a classic "blue and white" style highly prized in Europe at the time. The decoration depicts a serene landscape, surrounded by stylized rocks and trees. The rim is adorned with stylized floral and plant motifs that add a touch of elegance. Natural imperfections such as small spots or marks on the surface are authentic characteristics due to the long stay in salt water and are tangible proof of its fascinating past. The diameter is 36 cm. A regular certificate of authenticity with photos will be issued. We guarantee a response to your emails within 24 hours.
