Imperial Gosu Satsuma ceramic sculpture of excellent quality and size modeled and painted with blue, brown, orange and gold enamels depicting walking elephant. The rich ornamental blanket was used for important events and is finely detailed with a rich interweaving of floral motifs and hanging jewels. The glazing along the body enhances the shapes, movement and size of the pachyderm. Dai Nihon Satsuma Meizan six gold signature. Provenance: Japan Period: Meiji second half of the 19th century. Dimensions: 17 x 28 x 13 cm. State of conservation: Very good
