Porcelain cup and saucer, Imperial Manufactory of Vienna – 1823/24
Porcelain cup and saucer from the Imperial Manufactory of Vienna, datable to 1823–1824, bearing the underglaze blue mark on the back with the Vienna shield and manufacturing numbers. The cup (diameter 6.3 cm – height 6.3 cm) is marked with shape number 824, model 65, with painter number 21. The saucer (diameter 13.4 cm – height 2.8 cm) bears shape number 823, with turner 13 and painter 21. The decoration is characterized by a garland of stylized green leaves, underlined by thin gilded threads; a golden floral star motif appears in the center of the saucer. The gold, partially worn due to use and washing, testifies to the daily use of the object, while the porcelain is in perfect condition, without cracks or restorations. An elegant example of early 19th century Viennese production, sought after both for collection and for display cabinet décor.
