Description Elongated bowl (probably intended to hold plants or to be used as a decorative centerpiece), made of majolica (glazed ceramic) and characterized by a rich polychrome decoration on a cream/light yellow background. Structural Features and Shapes Form: Oval and elongated, with upper edges that have a wavy or "moving" profile. Hands: The two ends have vertical handles/ears, square in shape, which are intensely colored with cobalt blue. The inner faces of the handles show a yellow striped decoration. Edge and Base: The upper edge and the main profiles are finished with an intense cobalt blue. The base is slightly raised and follows the oval profile of the body. Interior: The interior is glazed in ivory white. Decoration and Style The decoration is done in high fire with enamels in shades of cobalt blue, ochre yellow, orange/brownish red, green and manganese. The style is distinctly Renaissance/grotesque, typical of Italian majolica. Main Band (Long Side): Presents a decoration with "trophies" or "grotesque fantasy". In the center there is an oval medallion framed by volutes and floral garlands, containing a human face (mask). On the sides of the medallion, the decoration develops symmetrically with figures of fantastic or hybrid animals (probably winged sea dragons or griffins) and satyr figures with animalistic lower limbs, interspersed with horns of plenty (cornucopias) full of fruit and vegetal volute motifs. Side Bands (Short Sides): They show a denser and more repetitive decoration with motifs of oak leaves and stylized branches in ocher and brownish red on a yellow background, framed by cobalt blue profiles. Brand Brand: On the internal base, there is a signature or brand painted with a brush in manganese black, attributable to the manufacture of the Società Ceramica di Colonnata in Sesto Fiorentino.
