Striking pair of glazed and gilded ceramic wall sconces, depicting two characters from Venetian tradition and the Commedia dell'Arte: Harlequin and a masked rower/gondolier. Harlequin (height 59 cm, width 22 cm, depth 13 cm) wears the classic polychrome lozenge costume, with gilded details and a black mask. The work is signed and numbered 367 on both the head and body. The hands are removable, fixed via the electrical cables leading to the bowls, conceived as lamp holders. Excellent state of preservation: no restorations, only slight signs of cooking and wear compatible with the era. The masked gondolier (height 57 cm, width 26 cm, depth approx. 14 cm) is represented with a white and red striped shirt, blue trousers and a yellow hat, in a lively pose. This example also bears the Orosa signature (San Polo, Venice). One hand holds a bowl, the other covers the lamp holder placed on the bust. State of conservation: it has some visible restorations to the fingers of both hands (a finger re-glued, a small missing piece and a re-glued fragment). Both works are distinguished by the dynamic plastic rendering and the brilliant polychromy with gilded inserts, typical of mid-20th century Venetian production. Note: currently the wall sconces are presented in the documented state; it is up to the collector to decide whether to keep them as they are or proceed with a restoration of the missing parts. Provenance: Venice, San Polo – signed Orosa. For further information, photographs or technical details, please do not hesitate to contact us.
