Egg-shaped ceramic with a hand-decorated relief depicting Pinocchio pulling a donkey, produced by the Ligurian manufacturer LA CASA DELL'ARTE, around 1940. Dimensions: Height 20 cm Diameter 18 cm In good overall condition, as shown in the photos there are small chips on the Pinocchio figure and on the donkey. The base bears the words "C.D.A. ALBISOLA". The great peculiarity of this object is the surface consistency of the ceramic, rough and scabrous, a sought-after treatment that deviates from the more usual smooth, uniform and non-rough surface that we are used to seeing. The egg is open and jagged at the top and is entirely glazed white, it has a hand-decorated polychrome figuration depicting Pinocchio intent on pulling the donkey, Collodi's famous character/puppet taken from his novel "The Adventures of Pinocchio. Story of a Puppet" from the late 19th century. Regarding the history of the factory, it is good to know that it was founded by Giuseppe Agnino with Giulio and Angelo Barile in 1921, in Albisola Capo, with the name "La Casa dell'Arte" aimed at producing modern artistic ceramics, hiring expert technicians Dario Ravano, Ivos Pacetti and Roggiapani, fresh out of the demobilized "M.A.S." (Maioliche Artistiche Savonesi) and the painter Manlio Trucco as decorator, returning from his artistic experience in Paris. In 1937 Giò Ponti collaborated with La Casa dell'Arte, designing some ceramic works. Among the artists who collaborated with the factory, in addition to those already mentioned, the following should be remembered: Adelina Zandrino, Francesco dal Pozzo, Tosetti, Emanuele Rambaldi and Mario Gambetta.
