Biography:
Federico Quatrini, born in Milan on September 21, 1916, in the immediate post-war period, after his initial painting experiences in Milan and the first exhibition of paintings and drawings held in Venice in 1939, arrived in Albisola and approached the ceramic material. He would then be led to sculpture, firing his clay works in the kilns of Pozzo Garitta, owned by Bianco d'Albisola.
In 1949 he made his debut as a ceramist presenting some of his works, unique pieces, in a solo exhibition in Albissola and at the Galleria Cairola in Milan.
In 1952 he participated in the National Ceramics Competition in Messina, in 1954 in the Exhibition of Master Ceramists at the Galleria San Fedele in Milan and in 1956 in the International Ceramics Competition in Faenza.
Moved by a deep religious faith, he created numerous religious works, including the large Via Crucis intended for the chapel of the Episcopal Complex of Vigevano and exhibited, in 1957, at the Galleria Cairola in Milan.
In the 1950s he also frequented the Albisola workshops of "Ce.AS.” owned by Pietro Rosso, Pietro Mantero and Angelo Platino, the kiln of Jolanda Schiavi, that of "Pozzo Garitta" and La Fenice.
In 1960 he presented a bronze statue at the Citta di Forlì Prize and from the same year he was present at all editions of the Albissola Ceramics Festival where, in 1961 he was awarded a gold medal.
In 1962 he participated in the Biennial of Sacred Art in Vigevano and the International Exhibition in Monza.
In 1963 he was invited by the municipality of Albissola Marina to participate, together with other important ceramists, in the construction of the Lungomare degli Artisti (waterfront of the Artists).
At the beginning of the Sixties he created some interesting monotypes of artistic ceramics at the Milanese workshops of Vincenzo Bortolotti.
In 1964 a solo exhibition was dedicated to him at the Galleria San Fedele in Milan.
In the same years he created a bas-relief in white monochrome depicting the Via Crucis for the Parish Church of Albissola Marina and collaborated with the Albisola "San Giorgio" of Eliseo Salino.
In the Eighties he was invited to create some ceramic works at the Albisola manufactory "Fabbrica Casa Museo Giuseppe Mazzotti 1903".
Federico Quatrini died in Savona in 1991.
