Pair of Empire amphora vases
Rare pair of Empire vases, from the early 19th century. Parisian manufacture. Polychrome porcelain, biscuit and gold leaf. Rare type, due to the particularity of the biscuit friezes with swans and cupids. On the recto reserves: one with a portrait of a peasant in the act of holding a wreath of roses in his hands, a clear allusion to an utterance of love, the other of a peasant girl. The clothing and hairstyles declare the idealization of the characters, far removed from the peasant reality of the time, still inspired by the eighteenth-century bucolic atmosphere of the parties of the nobility disguised as peasants.
