19th century, Parisian Workshop Pair of Albarelli Porcelain, cm alt. 16 x diam. 8 The albarelli, or spice jars, were objects typically used in pharmacies to contain medicinal products, herbal products or, precisely, spices. The diffusion of this type of vases, characterized by a wide mouth and a narrowing just below the rim, was initially in Persia, and only later their use became common also in Italy, especially in the south. In the Italian area, the pictorial ornamentation of these vases, made with different techniques and motifs, assumed particular importance.
