Pair of ancient and rare composite order columns entirely made of white marble, Italy, 16th century. Dimensions: Height 178 cm Diameter 17 cm The text is written by Alessandro Odierna - White Gloves / Services for on-line antiquarians The peculiarity of this pair of sixteenth-century columns lies in the surface treatment of the shaft which for about three quarters of the a very refined scaled decoration while the remaining portion is animated by the powerful chiaroscuro effect of the twisted bundles. A rod marks the division between the two ornaments and a rod always marks the shaft with a highly refined composite capital. The proportions are fine
