The scene is very attractive and moves the viewer, not only because of the considerable movement of the drapery but also because of the impressive realism of the Saint's vivid and human gaze. Indeed, the tender and innocent gaze of the Child, who will be the Mother of God, turns upwards towards Saint Anne, who instead expresses a strong sense of drama, as if aware of the events already decided by Divine design. The composition is perfectly balanced, very realistic, and without stylistic forcing, despite the exceptional vigor of the sculpture. It is clearly a work of art of an extraordinary level that demonstrates not only a first-rate plastic movement but also an excellent state of preservation. The large sculpture was carved from a single piece of oak in the most classic French tradition. Indeed, despite the evident influence of Italian art, the work is placed in the most beautiful Baroque production of French manufacture.
