Bronze sculpture of a male nude with child – Ferdinando De Luca, Naples, late 19th century
Period: Late 19th century
Origin: Naples, Italy
Technique: Cast and chased bronze
Dimensions: Height 60 cm; base diameter 25 cm
Description: Magnificent bronze sculpture signed “F. De Luca” on the back of the base, made by the Neapolitan artist Ferdinando De Luca, active between the 19th and 20th centuries. The figure, of perfect proportions, rises with harmonious lightness and sinuous elegance: a male nude in a dynamic pose, in which the body seems to flow with naturalness and vigor, evoking a classical ideal reinterpreted in a modern key. The warm patina of the bronze enhances the refined modeling of the muscles, and the spiral composition invites the eye to follow its fluid movement from foot to head. A work of rare quality, it represents a perfect balance between academic tradition and Art Nouveau taste - mid/late 19th century.
