CHRISTOPHE GABRIEL ALLEGRAIN (1710 - 1795) COPY FROM - VENUS BATHING - WHITE CARRARA MARBLE
Antique White Marble Sculpture - "The Bather"
This elegant white marble sculpture depicts a bather in a moment of grace and intimacy.
The female figure, with a harmonious body and soft forms, is sculpted with great skill, capturing the moment when the woman is about to enter the water.
The pose, classic and modest, is characterized by a delicate contrapposto, with the weight of the body resting on the right leg, while the left is raised and the foot rests on a rock.
With one hand, the woman holds back a drapery of fabric that slides lightly, creating a play of fluid folds that contrasts with the smoothness of the skin.
France, 19th century.
Height 74 cm
The face, lowered in an expression of humble serenity, and the collected hairstyle show a meticulous attention to detail.
The work is placed on a circular marble base that enhances its verticality and the purity of the lines.
This sculpture represents an excellent example of neoclassical art, a period in which the ideal beauty and formal perfection inspired by Greek-Roman antiquity were once again exalted.
The work here is a copy of that of the French sculptor Christophe Gabriel Allegrain kept at the Louvre museum.
