Circular bas-relief hand-carved in light marble, depicting the idealized profile of a Roman emperor, with his head turned to the left and a laurel wreath. The portrait, executed with clean lines and sober elegance, perfectly fits into the neoclassical taste and archaeological revival that characterized a large part of Italian artistic and decorative production in the first half of the 19th century. The work is set in an original 19th-century frame in ebonized walnut wood, with an elegant glossy black finish and vintage patina. The bas-relief, 13 cm in diameter, is mounted on a square wooden support measuring 20 x 19.5 cm. The metal hook on the back is not original, but from a later period. The surface of the marble has a slight translucency against the light and shows evident traces of manual processing. The object is in a good state of conservation, with natural wear and tear compatible with age, which enhances its material presence. Decorative and collectible work, appreciable both for the classic taste of the composition and for the artisan quality of the workmanship. Worldwide shipping available.
