MARBLE BUST - JULIETTE RECAMIER - 19TH CENTURY
Description of the Artwork:
This elegant white marble bust, masterfully sculpted, captures the grace and serenity of Juliette Récamier (1777-1849), the celebrated salonnière and prominent figure in Parisian society during the Directory and Consulate periods.
This work is a high-quality replica of the famous original marble sculpture created by Joseph Chinard between 1805 and 1806, currently housed at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon.
The sculpture portrays the female figure in a pose of composed introspection.
The slightly tilted head and lowered gaze give the work an aura of delicate modesty.
The details are sculpted with precision and sensitivity: the hairstyle, inspired by classical antiquity, is held by a draped band intertwined with the curls, while the hands are elegantly crossed at the chest, clasping the edges of a fine shawl that wraps around her shoulders.
The draping of the garment, with its soft and sinuous folds, demonstrates remarkable sculptural skill, creating a play of light and shadow that gives life and volume to the marble.
The simple and solid plinth base ensures stability and highlights the upper figure.
