Ernst Bohne Rudolstadt porcelain, hand-decorated Magot, late 19th century
Rare Magot in finely hand-decorated polychrome porcelain, Rudolstadt manufacture, late 19th century. Dimensions: Height 14 cm Length 15 Depth 15 cm In good condition. This type of figure derives from models imported into Europe from Cathay and depict the Chinese god of abundance and happiness Pu-Tai. During the eighteenth century these small statuettes found some success in aristocratic homes as a sign of exoticism and were renamed "Magot", which in France means barbary, as a sign of gaiety. Some models, like ours presented, also have a movable tongue in addition to the hands and head. A precious object and from the bundles
