Madonna and Child
Madonna and Child, plaster scagliola sculpture, author Alceo Dossena. Period: years of transition between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The sculpture comes from the workshop of Alceo Dossena in Parma, the city in which the sculptor settled in the first decade of the twentieth century from his native Cremona, where he had trained with a marble worker specializing in antiquarian copies. The composition reproduces exactly the Madonna and Child constituting the left part of the fourteenth-century Adoration of the Magi (last photo attached here) preserved in the Church of San Bassiano in Pizzighettone, at the gates of Cremona; the Adoration of San Bassian
