Putto with flute – Art Nouveau sculpture in grit, 1930s
Period: 1930s
Material: Marble grit
Dimensions: 208 (h) × 45 cm total – sculpture only: 163 × 45 cm
Description: Elegant grit sculpture dating back to the Art Nouveau period, datable to the 1930s, depicting a dancing putto playing a Pan flute. The figure stands in a dynamic and light position, with one leg raised and the body following a sinuous spiral motion, typical of the Art Nouveau style, an expression of grace, harmony and naturalness.
The subject – a young satyr or pastoral putto – is sculpted with lively expressiveness and attention to detail: from the rebellious curls to the floral decoration at the waist, up to the bark of the tree on which he leans. Time has left a suggestive patina on the surface, giving the sculpture a lived-in and authentic charm.
Perfect as an ornamental element for a garden or to be installed in period architectural contexts, this statue combines decorative art with the classic myth reinterpreted in an Art Nouveau key, offering a scenographic and harmonious sculptural presence.
