Study for a herd of buffalos, a subject on which Quarti worked repeatedly in the first half of the 1930s. Two oil paintings from 1930 and 1932 are known (*) under the title "Buffaloes", while other paintings with the same title are listed in the exhibition catalogs of 1930, 1932, 1937. The work presented here is the first idea for the painting "Buffaloes" of 1932, of which an image is attached. Mixed technique on cardboard of cm.71.5x87.5, made with black charcoal, colored touches and white lead on a background treated with gouache; signature in the lower right corner.
