Giuseppe Riva (Ivrea, 1834 - 1916) View of the Naviglio with the Duomo Tempera on canvas, 49.5 x 69.5 cm Signed bottom left "Riva G." This city view, signed in the lower right corner "Riva", shows how Giuseppe Riva, a painter specialized in the rendering of landscapes, wanted to continue the already warmly honored and appreciated tradition of landscape pictorialism declined in the mid-nineteenth century landscape painting. As can be seen in the canvas, the painter devoted himself to the composition of city views, such as Venice and, in our case, Milan. The painting, in fact, re-proposes the view
