(QF698) The Antique Flower Paintings category offers a beautiful Oil Painting on Canvas, from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. It is a pleasant still life, depicting a large yellow-ochre ceramic vase of lilac flowers in various colors: white, light lilac, intense purple. Some clusters have fallen on the table, suggesting a natural and spontaneous effect. The antique painting of lilac flowers that open out like a fan fills the canvas. The painter uses a dense and textured brushstroke, especially in the petals, which are almost in relief. It is a technique typical of floral painting from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, in continuity with Impressionism. Art Nouveau. The painting conveys elegance and freshness. The painting on canvas is signed in the lower left Luc. Gilb. Darpy, French painter of still lifes, but especially of flowers. Lucien Gilbert Darpy (1875-1964) was a student of Géry-Bichard and Nel-Duchel. He exhibited regularly at the "Salon des Artistes Français" and became a member in 1897. Darpy specialized in still lifes, especially flowers, often roses and refined floral compositions. The oil painting is dressed with an original lacquered wooden frame. The oil painting and frame are restored accurately and professionally. YOUTUBE VIDEO: https://youtu.be/CJxzIppIE00 Bibliography: E. Bénézit.
