Artist: Piero Dorazio (1927 - 2005) Title: "Fontainebleau" Technique: Lithograph Stamp and signature at the bottom: P/A. Dimensions with frame: 56 x 56 cm Piero Dorazio (Rome, 1927 – Perugia, 2005) was one of the greatest representatives of European abstract art. The need to remove art from any naturalistic reference and from the social function that had characterized it up to that moment led to the formation of the Forma 1 Group in 1947, which Dorazio directed together with Carla Accardi, Ugo Attardi, Pietro Consagra, Mino Guerrini, Achille Perilli, Antonio Sanfilippo and Giulio Turcato. The group's will was to free art from a psychological or realistic dimension, associating it with the criterion of structure with particular attention to the sign and form as the unique element of expression. These principles will be the basis of all of Dorazio's production. The artist, in fact, finds a key to interpreting abstract art, stating that the abstract painting represents nothing but itself, as it is made up of elements of vision. Art is a representation of the unreal which, however, is capable of exciting and transmitting true sensations.
