"Valle Imagna" (Imagna Valley), oil on canvas, 60 x 120 cm, work by Luigi Locatelli known as Bigì (1904-83), one of the most gifted members of the Locatelli family of Bergamo, three generations of excellent artists including 8 painters and 1 sculptor (*). Indifferent to the twentieth-century fashion and its neo-primitive and archaizing accents, Luigi Locatelli, like his cousin Romualdo, remained faithful to the eminently Bergamasque tradition of "bella pittura" (beautiful painting), painting with funambulistic virtuosity innovative and original works, which he created with swift brushstrokes and scenographic solutions. In this painting, he defines shapes and volumes exclusively through colors, leveraging the intensity and contrasts of greens, with solutions of material light and bright white highlights that would also be adopted by Romualdo. These stylistic connotations suggest dating the painting to around 1925 or shortly thereafter. The conservation conditions of the work are optimal, with the original canvas and frame. Signed in the lower right. _____________________________ (*) On the Locatelli family: - for the bibliography see most recently: F.
