Oil painting on canvas depicting a marine scene. Cm 73.5x54. Canvas: cm 60x40. Lucio Todeschini (Milan 1892-Cortenova 1969).Lucio Todeschini was born in Milan on February 20, 1892, into a family of artists. His father, Giambattista, an established painter in Lombardy in the second half of the 19th century and nephew of Abbot Antonio Stoppani, whose famous portrait he painted is now in the Civic Museums of Lecco, had created the lunettes of the Brera courtyard and, with Giuseppe Mentessi, had decorated the Loggia of the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan, later specializing in portraiture, but not neglecting landscape, especially that of the Lecco area. His elder brother, Piero (1888-1945) - also a painter and, like Lucio, a pupil of his father - on his return from the war in Libya had exhibited his impressions from life in Africa at the "Società Artisti e Patriottica" for which he had received the gold medal, later dedicating himself to moral-patriotic subjects and the design of advertising posters.
An architect by profession, Lucio soon moved to Cortenova in the province of Como, dedicating himself privately to painting for which he felt a natural inclination. He mainly painted flowers, still lifes, scenes and landscapes of the Valsassina, the best known of which is Dall’abbeveratoio, but above all corners and landscapes of old Milan, a not abundant production that nevertheless achieved immediate success with a large clientele of private collectors.
