Oil on Panel by Renuccio Renucci: "Sailing Ships in Port" A fascinating small-sized oil on panel capturing the luminous and vibrant atmosphere of a port, by the renowned Livorno painter Renuccio Renucci (1880-1947). The painting depicts a port scene, most likely the Port of Livorno, with two sailing ships or large boats dominating the composition. The white sails, rendered with textured and pasty brushstrokes, stand out against a clear sky, played on shades of pink, lilac, and pale blue, typical of the light of early morning or late afternoon. Stylistic Details Technique: Oil on panel. Style: The work features Renucci's characteristic full and elegant brushstroke, a mature synthesis between the early echoes of Divisionism and the tradition of Labronica painting. Subject: The artist's predilection for seascapes, boats, and port life manifests itself in the attention to the constructive details of the hulls and the vibrant reflection on the water, rendered with touches of fresh color and skillfully juxtaposed. Conservation: Excellent condition. The artist's signature is visible at the bottom. This painting is an excellent and highly collectible example of Renucci's talent in transforming an everyday scene into a work of art rich in light and poetry. Dimensions: 39 x 36 cm with frame, 21 x 20 cm the painting. Biographical Notes: Renuccio Renucci (Livorno, 1880 – 1947) Renuccio Renucci was an important Italian painter, a key figure in the Tuscan artistic scene of the twentieth century. Training and Initial Style: He began his artistic training at a very young age in Livorno under the guidance of the master Ugo Manaresi. Initially, he adopted late-Divisionist stylistic modules, characterized by a vibrant use of color. The Labronico Group: In 1920 he was among the founders of the famous Labronico Group, an association of Livorno painters who aimed to renew the tradition of local painting. Themes: His style evolved into a painting that favored Labronica themes: seascapes, the port, boats and fishermen. His small-format paintings, such as the one under consideration, are particularly appreciated for their luminous synthesis and energetic but controlled brushstroke. Critical Fortune: Renucci had considerable commercial and market success, especially in Tuscany, where he was admired for the realism of his compositions. His works are exhibited in private and public collections, and his figure has been repeatedly celebrated with retrospectives (such as those of 1957 and 1977 in Livorno) which confirm his value in the panorama of Italian art.
