The artwork, signed on the back by the master Virgilio Guidi and dated 1958, depicts a rarefied and poetic vision of the San Marco Basin in Venice, painted in oil on canvas. The painting is distinguished by its extraordinary ability to evoke suspended and silent atmospheres, typical of metaphysical painting and the artist's lyrical poetics. In the foreground, a dark triangle, probably the prow of a gondola or boat, guides the viewer's eye towards the horizon. The curvilinear perspective of the waterfront amplifies the feeling of quiet and contemplation. The style is recognizable by the soft and nuanced color range, with a predominance of pastel and watery green tones. The simplified and almost abstract forms—such as the trees on the left and the distant silhouettes of buildings and islands on the right—create a sense of immobile and meditative depth. On the back, it bears a label from the Galleria d'Arte La Loggia, Bologna. The work is framed in a vintage carved wooden frame, with an original patina that enhances its authenticity and historical character. cm 75x95 including frame cm 50x70 approximately, without frame Notes on the artist: Virgilio Guidi (1891–1984) was one of the most important Italian painters of the 20th century, a protagonist of the Novecento Italiano movement, lyrical realism, and personal research between figuration and abstraction. His works are present in numerous Italian and international museums.
