Alessandro Sanquirico (1777 - 1849) View of the city interior of ancient Greece Oil on canvas, 49 x 73 cm Frame 69.5 x 92.7 cm This painting depicts a series of ancient and imaginative architectures observable from the shadow of a majestic porch. The vault of the section of the portico, investigated by the painter with extreme detail, modularly organizes a series of coffered decorations with central plant ornament; elegant and sober festoons cadenced the architrave which supports, at the entrance, a lunette with three mythological figures. Powerful coupled columns, built for superimposed drums, guide the observer's eye along the interior
