Family portrait of the Count Jànos Majlàth (1786-1855), a Hungarian aristocrat who was also a historian and poet, with his wife and two children. The atmosphere of serene bourgeois intimacy, typical of the Biedemeier taste, is here entrusted to the climate of affection and tacit understanding that binds the four characters, to the common orientation of looks, to the disposition of heads according to the place that belongs to each member of the family. The painting is a copy of the family portrait taken around 1832 by Frieder Von Amerling (Vienna 1803-87) and kept in the Szépmuvészeti Múzeum in Budapest (see detail photo
