"Santi in Gloria" Francesco de Mura (Naples 1696-1782) workshop Oil on canvas measures 100 x 135 from the mid-18th century Splendid painting on large canvas depicting a large group of Saints from the Roman Church carried in glory by three Angels with wings spread. The three Celestial Creatures escort the Saints in their ascent and with their arms upturned they indicate Paradise. The Host of Saints in turn turns their ecstatic gazes towards Heaven. The author's excellent pictorial abilities are evident both in the perfect rendering of their faces and in the complex movements of their hands. The composition is articulated in such a way as to make everyone protagonists
