Giovanni Ospitali was born in Marzabotto (Bologna) on October 26, 1927, he lives and works in Florence. He started painting in Bologna under the guidance of prof. Giuseppe Rivali, art critic of the "Avvenire d´Italia", who, having detected a particular predisposition for the watercolor technique, advised him to acquire a particular specialization from this sector.
In 1949 he moved to Florence, where he frequented the local artistic circles, refining technique and craft, without however changing particular themes and pictorial styles, on the contrary acquiring the awareness of his own impossibility to adhere to prevailing schools and movements.
In the decade 1950-1960, production was almost totally absorbed by foreign markets (with prevalence for the United States of America and Canada).
From 1960 onwards he also devoted himself to oil painting while favoring watercolor. A parenthesis dedicated to advertising is also from this period. From 1977 he joined the AIA, and with the association he participated in all national exhibitions. The company "SAF" (Florentine Art Prints) has long been responsible for the diffusion in Italy and abroad of reproductions of his watercolors.
He is a collaborator of periodicals and magazines, including "Arte più Arte".
His watercolor stands out from the mass for a particular characteristic, based on the tonal and ringing vibration of the colors.
He likes to film the Tuscan historical centers, his beloved Florence, Pistoia, Paris, Naples and everywhere his gaze has rested to celebrate a place worthy of being taken up and immortalized. He has held about thirty solo exhibitions from 1975 to date and about forty group exhibitions.
